Sustainable surface protection by glass-like hybrid and biomaterials coatings

BIO-SUSHY proposes a framework for developing repellent organic and hybrid coatings to replace polluting polyfluorinated alkyl substances. The coatings will have hydrophobic and oleophobic properties, made from bio-based thermoplastic powder and hybrid sol-gel. Coatings will be applied on various substrates for validation of applications at pre-industrial scale in different domains. Material selection, formulation and coating process will comply with Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) strategy. Modelling activity will predict both repellent properties of coating surfaces and leaching mechanisms of composites. A computational tool will be developed for training and provision towards existing data repositories and marketplaces. BIO-SUSHY will be assisted by stakeholders to ensure social acceptance and economic impact.
