Exotic magnetic states in molecular semiconductor thin films

Organic molecular materials show unexpected spin transport properties. This was demonstrated also by the pioneering investigations undertaken by the proposers. The group at CNR demonstrated that no spin precession was occurring in the widely used molecular semiconductor tris-(8 hydroxyquinoline)aluminum. This puzzling result spurred further experimental and theoretical investigations. A new theory was developed to explain the findings, while the experimental work aimed at confirming the result and at deepening its understanding.
In this proposal we aim at laying the ground work for a wider and deeper collaborative effort to answer this question. Further aims will be to explore the applicative potential of the findings, especially in quantum computing and neuromorphic computing.
The research will be based on the complementary expertise offered by CNR and University of Oxford
