Main research interests
The main research interests are involved into the chemical-physical study of materials of archaeological interest of metallic and ceramic nature in order to recover ancient production processes, the state of preservation and to investigate degradation mechanisms and to identify the best tailored strategies to stop degradation and corrosion phenomena occurring in these valuable objects. Her attention furthermore has been focused into the surface chemical-physical study of materials of technological interest such as innovative materials, sensors and microsystems, advanced metal and ceramic materials for technological applications for the purpose of study the nano and microchemical structure on the final properties of materials and so optimise production processes, investigate degradation phenomena and tailor the final properties primarily mechanical, thermal and electronic.
The objectives are reached by means of the combined use of different advanced surface and bulk analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy + energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM+EDS), optical microscopy (OM), and micro-Raman spectroscopy.
Tilde de Caro took a degree in Geology at the First University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ in 1997 and a PHD in ‘Materials Science and Technology’ at the ‘Politecnico of Turin’ in 2009. She works as researcher at the ‘Istituto per lo studio dei materiali nanostrutturati’ of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (Institute for the study of nanostructured materials of the National Research Council of Italy, ISMN-CNR).
