How to get to Matera
From Bari airport
The nearest airport is Bari Palese (60 km), from which you can reach Matera in the following ways:
• by direct shuttle bus service (visit the Buses Search section of Aeroporti Di Puglia);
• via the direct shuttle bus service run by the company Grassani & Garofalo;
• by train with the Ferrovie Nord Barese (www.ferrovienordbarese.it), reaching Bari Centrale station. Leaving the station, you arrive in Piazza Aldo Moro: at that point, turn left to reach the F.A.L. (Ferrovie Appulo Lucane), from where several trains depart to reach the station of Matera Centrale in about 80 minutes.
WARNING: on holidays there are no trains but only a few buses;

From Rome, Florence, Pisa and Siena you can
reach Matera with the Marozzi and Liscio bus lines.
Furthermore, Flixbus connects Matera to different destinations. To reach Matera by bus from national and international locations, you can consult these companies:
FROM THE TYRRHENIAN COAST
Take the Salerno - Reggio Calabria highway, exit at the Sicignano junction and follow the directions for Potenza. Then continue to Metaponto along the SS 407 "Basentana" until reaching the Matera signs near Ferrandina Scalo.
FROM THE ADRIATIC COAST
Take the Bologna-Taranto highway to the Bari Nord exit. Continue for the industrial zone, for Altamura-Matera, that is the SS 96 and then the SS 99, in course of enlargement to 4 lanes.
FROM CALABRIA AND SICILY
Reggio Calabria-Salerno highway. Exit at Sibari and take the SS 106 Jonica to Taranto. Take the Matera exit, near Metaponto.
FROM THE SALENTO
The most comfortable way is to go past Brindisi then Taranto, and take the SS 106 Jonica to the Matera exit near Metaponto.
